Best IT help desk tools for Slack in 2026

· Reviewed by Ran Ribenzaft, Co-Founder & CTO

The 8 best IT help desk and ITSM tools that work inside Slack, compared on in-thread resolution, AI actions, ITAM, pricing and fit for 200 to 1,000 employee companies. Verified October 2026.
If your employees live in Slack, the best IT help desk is the one they never have to leave. In 2026 that means a tool where a request can be opened, triaged, resolved and closed inside the Slack thread, and where the AI agent can actually do things (reset MFA, grant app access, add someone to a group) rather than only answer from a knowledge base. On that bar, the strongest options for a 200 to 1,000 employee company are Harmony, Siit and Atomicwork among the AI-native tools, and Freshservice and Jira Service Management among the established suites. Risotto fits startups under 200 people, Zendesk Employee Service suits teams already on Zendesk, and Moveworks is an enterprise overlay rather than a help desk.
How we evaluated
We scored each tool on five things a Slack-first IT team feels every day:
- In-thread lifecycle. Can an employee open a request by messaging, add details by replying, get status, and see it closed, without visiting a portal?
- Acts, not just answers. Does the AI agent execute (password and MFA resets, access provisioning, group membership, onboarding tasks) through integrations, or does it only retrieve articles and create tickets?
- System of record. Is there an ITSM backbone behind the chat (tickets, SLAs, approvals, ITAM/CMDB), or does the tool rely on another system?
- Pricing model. Per agent, per employee, per outcome or platform fee, and whether AI features are an add-on.
- Fit for 200 to 1,000 employees. Minimums, maximums and implementation weight.
Numbers are list prices with annual billing as published in October 2026; several vendors do not publish prices, and we say so.

The tools
1. Harmony
Best for: 200 to 1,000 employee companies that want most IT and HR requests resolved by an agent inside Slack (and Teams), with asset and application management behind it.
In Slack: Employees message the Harmony agent in a DM or a help channel. The agent identifies the person, pulls their devices, apps and policies from the integrations, resolves what it can (MFA and password resets with identity verification, application access with approval routing, group membership, onboarding and offboarding tasks) and opens a ticket with full context only when a human is needed. The human picks it up in the same thread.
Behind the chat: Harmony is a system of record, not an overlay. The Manage module covers assets, applications and SaaS licences, employee records, policies and AI governance; 100+ prebuilt agents and 100+ integrations across identity, MDM, HRIS, EDR and existing ITSM tools.
Pricing: A custom quote, scoped to your company size and how you use it; the core deployment includes the Slack and Teams agent, knowledge base generation, core integrations and support.
Evidence: Published customer results include Cyera (roughly 85 to 89% of employee requests resolved automatically), Kith (57% of questions resolved with no ticket) and Mammoth Brands (time to first response from 4 hours to 7 seconds). These are customer-reported figures published by Harmony.
Limitations: Reviewers on G2 ask for more flexible reporting and dashboard widgets; some integrations needed extra setup steps. If you need published per-seat pricing to self-serve, you will not find it here.
2. Siit
Best for: Small IT and ops teams that want a native Slack service desk with simple per-admin pricing.
In Slack: Siit creates a thread per request and keeps it updated; replying in the thread adds to the request. On the Pro plan, AI agents execute password resets, access provisioning and IT workflows; lower tiers get an assistant limited to 10 conversations a week.
Behind the chat: Asset and SaaS management from the Standard plan, approvals, a service catalog, and knowledge drawn from Notion and Confluence.
Pricing: $23 (Essentials), $45 (Standard) and $89 (Pro) per admin per month, annual billing; employee headcount does not affect the bill. Full AI agents require Pro.
Limitations: Reporting is the most common complaint on G2; knowledge sync is not real time; the review base is small (29).
3. Atomicwork
Best for: Companies that prefer outcome-based pricing and plan to extend the service desk to HR and finance.
In Slack: Atom resolves requests end to end in Slack and Teams, including password resets and software provisioning through Intune, Entra ID, GitHub and similar.
Behind the chat: ITSM and ESM; CMDB and ITAM are in the Business and Enterprise tiers, not Professional.
Pricing: Professional starts at $25,000 a year with 25,000 credits and two AI coworkers; additional coworkers $499 a month; outcome pricing of $1 to $3+ per outcome with annual minimums.
Limitations: The $25,000 floor is steep for a 200-person company; one G2 review so far; ITAM requires the higher tiers.
4. Freshservice
Best for: Teams that want a mature ITIL suite (incident, problem, change, release, ITAM) and are happy to use Slack as the front door.
In Slack: The Freddy AI Agent runs in Slack and Teams: employees message the bot, get knowledge answers, raise tickets and request catalog items in-thread. With orchestration configured, it can fulfil requests such as password resets, distribution list changes and software access.
Behind the chat: The most complete ITIL process coverage on this list, plus ITAM (100 asset units included, more paid).
Pricing: $19 (Starter), $49 (Growth), $99 (Pro) per agent per month, annual billing; Enterprise is custom. Freddy AI Copilot is a $29 per agent add-on; the Freddy AI Agent for employees is included in Enterprise with 1,200 sessions a year, with extra sessions sold separately. Budget for the add-ons: a 5-agent Pro team with Copilot is about $7,700 a year before AI Agent sessions.
Limitations: G2 reviewers cite missing features (83 mentions), limited customisation and a learning curve; the AI that acts is gated behind Enterprise and session packs. More in our Freshservice alternatives guide.
5. Jira Service Management
Best for: Companies already standardised on Jira and Confluence.
In Slack: JSM Chat lets employees create and work on requests from Slack and Teams. The Virtual Service Agent (Premium and Enterprise) answers from knowledge and can run intent flows you build; acting on identity systems requires automation you configure.
Behind the chat: Assets included (5,000 objects on Standard, 50,000 on Premium), strong linkage to engineering work.
Pricing: Free for 3 agents; Standard $20 and Premium $51.42 per agent per month; Enterprise custom and annual only. The virtual agent needs Premium.
Limitations: The steepest learning curve in the group according to G2 (complex setup, confusing UI); AI actions are a build, not a switch. More in our Jira Service Management alternatives guide.
6. Zendesk Employee Service
Best for: Companies that already run Zendesk for customer support and want one vendor.
In Slack: Zendesk advertises support in Slack and Teams and AI agents that complete multi-step requests such as password resets and access approvals (vendor claim); we could not verify the in-thread lifecycle from public docs.
Behind the chat: ITAM from the Growth plan (500 assets included); no CMDB.
Pricing: Team $29, Growth $59, Professional $99 per agent per month, annual billing. AI agents are metered per automated resolution (5 to 10 included per agent per month, then $1.50 to $2.00 each); Copilot is $50 per agent.
Limitations: Cost is the top G2 complaint; per-resolution AI billing makes the bill grow with success.
7. Risotto
Best for: Startups under 200 employees that want Slack ticketing with Tier 1 and Tier 2 automation at a flat price.
In Slack: Slack-native ticketing, SaaS provisioning and access management, multi-step troubleshooting. Teams support is not verified.
Behind the chat: No ITAM; integrates with Jira, Zendesk, Freshservice and Okta.
Pricing: $1,250 a month on annual billing, eligibility under 200 employees; Enterprise is custom. 30-day trial.
Limitations: Four G2 reviews; outgrown at 200 people by the vendor's own tiering.
8. Moveworks (ServiceNow)
Best for: Enterprises that keep ServiceNow or another ITSM and want an AI front door across IT, HR and finance.
In Slack: Resolves issues, resets access and provisions tools through action plugins, in Slack and Teams.
Behind the chat: None of its own; it needs your ITSM as the system of record.
Pricing: Quote-only; Moveworks cites a vendor-commissioned Forrester TEI of 256% ROI.
Limitations: Enterprise-scale implementation; G2 reviewers mention integration complexity and limits with non-ServiceNow platforms. For a 500-person company it is usually two products where one would do. More in our Moveworks alternatives guide.
Choose by situation
- You want the agent to resolve most requests and you are 200 to 1,000 people: Harmony or Siit. Pick Siit if you want public per-admin pricing and a lean scope; Harmony if you also want asset, application and HR coverage in the same system.
- You need deep ITIL processes first and Slack second: Freshservice, with the Freddy AI Agent on Enterprise.
- Everything already lives in Atlassian: Jira Service Management Premium.
- Under 200 employees: Risotto or Siit Essentials.
- You run a large ServiceNow estate and will not replace it: Moveworks.
For how to set up the channels, approvals and first automations once you have picked a tool, see Slack IT ticketing with AI agents. For size-specific shortlists, see ITSM for mid-market companies.
This guide is written and maintained by Harmony, which is one of the vendors listed. Frequently asked questions
Can an IT help desk run entirely in Slack without a portal?
Yes, for most request types. Harmony, Siit and Atomicwork handle open, update, approve and close in the thread; Freshservice and JSM do most of it with their Slack apps but push some flows (catalog forms, change requests) to the portal.
What is the difference between a Slack chatbot that answers and an agent that acts?
An answering bot retrieves knowledge articles and creates a ticket. An acting agent calls your identity provider, MDM, HRIS or SaaS admin APIs to complete the request (reset MFA, grant a licence, add to a group) under approval rules. The second is what removes tickets.
Do these tools also work in Microsoft Teams?
Harmony, Siit, Atomicwork, Freshservice, JSM, Zendesk and Moveworks support both. Risotto is Slack-first. See the companion guide for Teams-first organisations.
How is AI priced in Slack help desk tools?
Four models: included in the price or quote (Harmony, Siit Pro, SysAid), per-agent add-on (Freshservice Copilot $29, Zendesk Copilot $50), per-session or per-resolution (Freshservice AI Agent sessions, Zendesk automated resolutions, Atomicwork outcomes), and quote (Moveworks). Per-resolution models scale cost with the deflection you were hoping to gain.
What should a 500-person company expect to pay?
Per-agent suites land around $3,000 to $8,000 a year for 4 to 5 agents before AI metering; outcome and platform-fee vendors start higher but include the AI. Ask every vendor for a three-year number at your headcount. Our 500-employee guide works through the numbers.
